Relocation FAQ
What is happening at Linden Plaza?
LP Preservation will take over ownership of Linden Plaza in the late 2024. LP Preservation LLC has been working with city agencies to implement a comprehensive renovation plan to correct problems for the long-term. This plan includes addressing structural issues, upgrading kitchens and bathrooms, making accessibility improvements throughout, and increasing site security.
When will renovations at Linden Plaza begin and how long will it take to complete?
Renovations will commence shortly after the ownership transition. It is anticipated that all renovations will take at least four years. All apartments will receive the same comprehensive renovations.
What is the scope of work being completed?
All apartments will receive new kitchens and bathrooms, new flooring and painting, new entry doors, plumbing riser replacement, improved heating distribution, and balcony railing and divider repairs. Repairs to façade, roof and areas of water infiltration will also be undertaken.
Will I need to move during renovations in my apartment?
Yes. In order to safely renovate each apartment, all households will temporarily move to a vacant unit that has been renovated to meet existing move-in conditions, with new appliances and all holes sealed from pest entry. During the apartment renovations, water and electricity will be shut off so that construction can complete necessary system upgrades.
When will my apartment be renovated?
All apartments will undergo the same, comprehensive renovation. We will begin this process with Building 5. If you live in a building other than Building 5, HOU will notify you when your building is beginning renovations well in advance of your temporary move
When will I received notice when I have to temporarily move?
All residents will receive notice at least 60 days in advance of when their unit will be under renovations based upon the construction schedule. Residents will also receive a 30-day notice and 2-week notice that will include their move date as well as temporary or permanent unit address. These notices will provide information on how residents may prepare for their upcoming move.
Who will be helping me with my relocation?
Housing Opportunities Unlimited (HOU) has been brought on to provide temporary relocation services. HOU has successfully relocated 64,000+ households and has 42 years of experience. HOU will first conduct an assessment with each household to understand their relocation needs and will then work with residents every step of the way throughout the move process. HOU’s mission is to ensure that residents affected by redevelopment of their community are treated fairly, in accordance with regulatory requirements, and experience minimal physical and emotional stress during this process.
HOU maintains an onsite office at 760 Eldert Lane, Unit 13L with office hours Monday-Friday 8am-4pm; HOU staff will be available additional hours by appointment. You can reach the relocation team at 347-384-6043 or [email protected] or by coming to our onsite office.
When will my move be scheduled? Will I receive assistance with packing and moving?
HOU will coordinate your move with a professional and licensed moving company that will move your belongings and assist with your move. HOU will also distribute packing supplies (i.e., boxes, tape, and wrapping paper) at least 30 days before you are scheduled to relocate from your unit. The movers will move all necessary furniture and belongings with you to your temporary unit and back to your renovated unit. Packing and unpacking assistance will be available to residents who need such assistance.
IMPORTANT: Every resident is responsible for packing and bringing personal valuables (cash, medications, important documents, etc.) with them. It is the resident’s responsibility to put all valuables in a safe place.
Do all of my belongings have to come out of my apartment for the renovations?
Yes, all of your belongings must be removed from your original unit and brought with you to your temporary unit. There will be storage available for residents that are temporarily moving into a unit that cannot hold all of their existing belongings.
Will I have to pay for any costs related to relocation?
No. The project will pay for all reasonable moving costs and will reimburse reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred in connection with the temporary relocation. You will be provided with packing materials (boxes, tape, wrapping paper).
Do I need to pay rent while I am relocated to another apartment and my unit is being renovated?
Yes, you need to continue paying rent to your Original Apartment and comply with your lease as well as additional rules. You will be asked to sign an agreement called a “Temporary Transfer Agreement” to this effect. This Temporary Transfer Agreement will also guarantee that you can return to your original renovated unit or another renovated unit. HOU staff will review this agreement with you well in advance of your move.
What about my cable, Internet and/or landline phone service?
Prior to your relocation, you will need to transfer your cable, Internet and/or phone service to your temporary unit. If you are moving permanently into a fully renovated unit, you will need to transfer these utilities as well. Please let HOU staff know if you need assistance with the utility transfer process. You will be reimbursed for any fee associated with the transfer of your cable, Internet and/or phone service. Just be sure to bring a copy of the first bill you receive after the transfer, so HOU can process your reimbursement. Please let HOU know if there is an outstanding balance for any utility.
What will happen with my in-home services (such as Meals on Wheels, Visiting Nurse, PCA, home deliveries, etc.) while I am relocated?
HOU can assist you with transferring your services to your temporary apartment during your stay and with transferring them back to your renovated apartment.
What happens if I want to throw away items before my relocation?
There will be scheduled “Dumpster Days” during which you will have an opportunity to discard any unwanted items prior to your move. Contact HOU to schedule a time for your large furniture items to be taken to the dumpster on Dumpster Day. HOU will complete a “Trash Disposal Form” with you detailing those items that you authorize to be thrown away. HOU will also send notices to residents with more information about dates and process.
When will I know that renovations in my unit are completed?
HOU onsite staff will be in contact with you and provide you with advance notice of when your renovated unit is ready for you to move back.

How will I be given access to my temporary apartment?

Will my mail be transferred as part of my temporary move?
You will continue to receive mail to your original unit’s mailbox. HOU will inform you of any changes to this policy. Remember to update package deliveries (e.g. Amazon) to have them go to your temporary unit.
